There's a First Time For Everything

Saturday's workout:
15.5 miles. Hilly miles. I felt great until the last couple of miles. I totally forgot to bring any nutrition with me and I think for over 15 miles I need it. My tank definitely felt empty.

I was registered for an indoor triathlon today, but didn't go. It's the first time I've registered for something and not done it. I'm angry at myself, but there was no way I could have competed.

Yesterday was a rough day and I haven't been able to eat much or sleep much.

Here's to hoping things get better - SOON!

A New Season

Girls On The Run started again this week for the spring season!

I am so excited to work with another amazing group of girls. They all had bright smiles and positive attitudes this week.
Our first practice was on Valentine's Day so one of the amazing coaches made handmade valentine's for each of the girls so they would know how much we LOVE that they are part of our team this season.

We spent a lot of time trying to get to know each other and remember everyone's names. Time flew by!
I am looking forward to the rest of the season and can't wait to see what our fabulous team has in store for us!

Sometimes Life Gets In The Way

And that sometimes would be this week. Sigh.

I had planned on hitting over 100 miles for the month on Sunday - but that number still hasn't changed.

Workouts this week:
A couple at home work outs via Jillian Michael's 30 day Shred and Pinterest. Nothing too exciting. No cardio.

Sunday night I couldn't sleep. Which makes going to the gym at 5 a.m. nearly impossible. At 1:30 a.m. I reset my alarm for 6 and decided to skip the gym before work.

Monday night I watched the girls and was able to sneak in a pinterest work out.

Tuesday was Valentine's Day and a very busy day at work. No work out except for running around like a crazy lady. We celebrated Vday with a fabulous dinner made by Marc and a couple a few some glasses of wine.

Wednesday's plan was to hit the gym in the morning before hanging out with Tara for the day, however a sinus headache had other plans. I did sneak a Shred work out in the afternoon before our girls night out. More on that later!

February Finally Arrived

14.5 windy, hilly, chilly miles, but Saturday's run was awesome!

I'm not going to lie - a little part of me was hoping the roads would be bad so I would have an excuse to go back to bed.

The windchill was 0 degrees when I got up, but rose to a whole 1 degree by the time I left my house.

I had so many layers on I was almost afraid of getting too warm. The wind was blowing at 20 mph though, so I quickly realized I needed all of the layers!

We met downtown and ran the first 9 or so miles of the Flying Pig course. Which of course includes lots of bridges which are always colder and windier.

I felt strong the entire run despite being sick, the wind and the cold.

Unfortunately our trail run was canceled for Sunday morning. The trail is very technical and just too dangerous in icy conditions. My klutzy self should probably be thankful!

Sick and Snow

The last few days have been filled with
and
No workouts Wednesday or Thursday in an effort to rest and feel better. I hope it's working. I have high mileage plans this weekend.

Saturday's running forecast is looking more like a normal February. We are expecting snow overnight that will turn to ice starting around 8:00 a.m. Perfect timing. Thank you snow and ice, why can't you come during the week so I can use you as an excuse not to go to work?

Here's to hoping I can breathe and run at the same time tomorrow.

Snuggling with Sid

Tuesday night's work out was nothing exciting.

5.5 mile run. Not too fast, not too slow. A few half mile pick ups thrown in the middle. I actually felt really good and wanted to do a few more miles, but also wanted to get home to the pup and to start making dinner. The responsible side of me won last night.

Then I spent the rest of the night fighting off the chills. Time to up the vitamin C intake. At least I had this snuggle bug to cuddle with.

Pinterest Strikes Again

Monday's workout:
3.1 miles on the dreadmill and a strength/cardio circuit via Pinterest.

One of my goals is to do a work out even if I don't have time for a decent run or to get to the gym. And of course, pinterest has really made this easier!

I had 45 minutes between work and watching the girls last night so I hurried on down to the gym at work and jumped on the treadmill for a quick 3 miles.

While in the locker room I was stopped by a woman who wanted to tel me her daughter is starting Girls on the Run next week! She is not on my team, but I was so excited for her. I can't wait to hear how she likes it! I am super excited to start coaching again next week!

After a quick shower I was off to babysit.

Homework, dinner, homework.

When the necessities were all taken care of, I asked Laura if she wanted to do a work out with me. Actually I asked both of the girls, but only Laura said yes.
We did it! Laura asked me why her heart was beating so fast! (p.s. Laura is in 8th grade and she said it was fun, I didn't make a 4 year old do this!)

I'm happy I made the most of the time I had!

Weekend In Review

I need to get better about posting. At least then I'm not trying to remember everything I wanted to post about!

Friday I was planning to swim after an eye doctor appointment in the afternoon, however Mr. Eye Doctor decided to go ahead and remove this pesky little thing from my eye. So almost 3 hours after arriving at Mr. Eye Doctor's office I was on my home with a sore eye. Chlorine + eye surgery = not a good idea. I did get partake in a little retail therapy with Sarah though!
Pretty and red. Please excuse the need for an eyebrow wax.

Saturday morning's forecast predicted 100% chance of rain. And rain, it did! I ran 13 miles with a few people I knew but not very well. New people always help the miles fly by since you have so much to talk about. We hit a big hill around mile 6 - perfect training for the Pig. I struggled up the hill and as soon as I got to the top, we turned and faced a massive headwind. It was a hard run, we pushed the pace and the wind and rain added to the difficulty, but I felt great afterwards. I honestly can't even remember at what mile it started raining, I just know I looked like a drowned rat by the time I finished. Thankfully I had a dry shirt and fleece in my car.

Marc greeted me at home, took my sopping wet clothes for me and said "You know, B, I was thinking. You are a pretty hardcore runner." That was the nicest thing he could have possibly said to me at that moment.

Then it was time to dry out and warm up.

Marc's boot warmer/dryer comes in handy after rainy runs!

Happy Hips

Yesterday was a "rest" day.

I wish that meant getting in my pj's after work and not moving from the couch.

What it did mean:
Riding in the car with a 16 year old with her temps (her car, not mine)
Sharing a LaRosa's pizza with 2 giggly teenage girls

Getting my yoga on
Not going to bed until almost midnight (WAY past my bedtime)
Cow Face Pose

Back to the yoga...I finally did it! I know it was one of my goals this year to do it more often. I'm sort of slacking at that right now. However, I found a hip opener series (via Pinterest, of course!) and decided to give it a go.
My hips have always been really tight, but I do notice improvement when I am practicing yoga regularly.

Apparently we store our negative emotions in our hips. Who knew?

Now I have happy hips.
